Tariffs on European Furniture: How We Are Protecting Our Customers

At Home Resource, our mission has always been to bring world-class European furniture to our clients while protecting the value and integrity of every purchase. With the most recent announcement on increased tariffs for Upholstered furniture, many of our clients have asked: What does this mean for me as a consumer?

The truth is, the announcements on tariffs have been broad based which makes things more challenging for retailers and consumers to comprehend. However in July, the EU and the US agreed to cap the tariff rate on European furniture at 15% on its landed cost. Consequently, the recent announcements on tariffs increases to upholstered furniture does not apply to European furniture. 

How Tariffs are Paid 

Tariffs are paid by Home Resource directly to the U.S. government at the time of import. 

How Tariffs Impact Pricing — and What We’re Doing About It

• In some cases, European manufacturers have raised their retail prices to completely offset tariffs. In this case, the complete cost of the tariff increase is passed directly through to the consumer.

• In many other cases, our vendors have not raised their prices in direct relation to the increase in tariffs — meaning you, the client, haven’t seen the complete cost of the tariffs. 

What We Want You to Know

• Importers pay tariffs to the US Government, Foreign Companies do not. If you hear otherwise, it’s misinformation.

• Not all costs are passed on. In fact, in many cases, we’ve shouldered the burden so you don’t have to.

Looking Ahead
