1919 Armchair

Poltrona Frau

  • 1919 Armchair takes its cue from model 128, which made its debut in Renzo Frau’s 1919 catalogue. The 128 reproduced the opulent features of rococo armchairs, with the addition of a special extension to serve as footrest and a small book stand supported by an arm anchored to the side. The present-day version of this armchair, reproducing the big “ears” of the seatback and the large rounded arms,  is even more stylish, and the book stand has been replaced with a brass tray. The design of the back is achieved by means of manual quilting, the bearing structure is made of seasoned Beech. The seat is stuffed with rubberised horsehair, the seatback and arms use vegetal horsehair fashioned by hand. The seat, back and arms all use biconic steel springs tied manually and rested on jute belts. Upholstery is available in Pelle Frau® leather from the Color System or in Heritage or Soul leather. The upholstery is also available in Pelle Frau leather from the Color System or Heritage leather for the structure and in fabric for the seat cushions.

    Poltrona Frau

Poltrona Frau is a furniture-maker founded in 1912 by Sardinian-born Renzo Frau in Turin, Italy, headquartered since the early 1960s in Tolentino, Italy and specializing in leather seating for interior and automotive applications. The company name combines the Italian word for armchair, "Poltrona" and "Frau, the last name of its founder.

Noted for their exhaustive quality standards, the company uses a 21-step leather tanning process where the full-grain leather is dyed through, so a surface scratch won’t reveal a lining underneath. 95% of the company's products are made by hand.

In 2004, Poltrona Frau acquired noted Italian furniture company Cappellini, and the Poltrona Frau Group now includes brands Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cassina, Alias, Nemo Lighting, Ceramica Flaminia and Fish Design
