Topiary Chair and Ottoman

Knoll

With Topiary, Richard Schultz wanted to design a chair that looked like a shrub pruned to look like a chair. The designer is "fascinated by the way sunlight comes through the leaves of shrubbery, producing dappled shadows." And this furniture was designed to act as a light filter, disappearing into nature. Sometimes the pattern looks like flowers. Covered with dew, it looks alive.

The Topiary Collection is made of sheet aluminum that is bent, stamped and folded. All aluminum components are then powder coated, resulting in furniture that you can leave outside throughout the year. Simple bent components form the seat back and arms of the series' Lounge Chair - a flowing, sculptural design which complements its natural surroundings. The Topiary Lounge Chair is well suited to outdoor garden spaces and gathering spots. The Topiary Ottoman/End Table is a natural selection for groupings of this Lounge.
